FS2000 - CFS FW190 A-4 in Desert Camouflage. This is a repaint of
the default CFS FW190a aircraft painted in Desert Camouflage
textures based on the original picture. Aircraft flown by
Oberleutnant Adolf Dickfeld, Staffel, II Gruppe, Jagdgeschwader 2,
Kairouan, Tunisia, 1942 This file contains an extra skin with
Swastika on the tail as flown on the actual aircraft. This
aircraft is from CFS and tested in FS2000. Uses Fw 190a Panel.
It will fly equally well in CFS and FS2000. All flight surfaces
are moveable, retractable landing gear.

INSTALLATION FOR FS2000:
INSTALLATION: Unzip the file "fw190a_4.ZIP"into your "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\Aircraft" Folder. Your should end up with a folder named "Fw190a-4 Desert". Under the folder "Fw190a-4 Desert", you will have five folders:
GAUGES
MODEL
PANEL
SOUND
TEXTURE
Copy the the file "FW190a.gau" from the folder "GAUGES" shown above, to C:\Program files\Microsoft Games\FS2000\GAUGES. If you have already downloaded/copied the FW190a.gau" file, and installed it in FS2000, the gauges will already be there in the "GAUGES" folder. Explorer will let you know if it already exists. This Acft will use the default Fw190a Panel, which is already in the "PANEL" folder. When selecting this aircraft in FS2000 it will read "Fw190a-4 Desert". You can ignore the file "gauges", as the gauge "FW190a.gau" will already be in the CFS "GAUGES" folder. This Acft will use the default Fw190a Panel. You must copy all of the sound files in the default "Fw190a" sound Folder into the "SOUND" folder of your new aircraft "Fw190a-4 Desert/SOUND". It will tell you that "SOUND.CFG" already exists, do you want to overwrite it. Select "YES" and copy over the "SOUND.CFG" file. When selecting this aircraft in Combat Flight Simulator it will read "Fw190a-4 Desert". If you have any problems with this aircraft, e-mail me at the address below.

PANELS:
The aircraft uses the default Fw190 panel but you can download several nice panels for the Fw190 aircraft (see file "redwul1_panel.jpg") from the Internet at http://www.redwulf.de for download and panel options. Their panel contains many additional options that the default panel does not have. (http://www.redwulf.de)
FOR SWASTIKA TEXTURE:
Included is an extra file "fw190_s_swastika.bmp" in the textures folder. To use this texture, rename the current file fw190_s.bmp to something like "fw190_s.bak". Then rename the file "fw190_s_Swastika.bmp" to "fw190_s.bmp. The next time that the aircraft is selected in FS2000/CFS it will have the Swastika on the tail. I have done this so that no one will be offended by the Swastika on the download. Actual aircraft flew with Swastika painted on the tail.

Fighter Markings
German fighter units had their own markings system, which is summarized below. For the non-alphabetic symbols, the following convention is used: '~' indicates the a curved line, resembling an U with down-turned tips. '|' indicates a vertical line, '-' a horizontal line, and '+' a cross. '<' indicates a forward pointing '<', but when this is repeated as '<<', the second symbol was painted inside the first one, often as a triangle. For the circle I use 'o', and for the solid ball '·'
A Jagdgeschwader was made up of three (later four) Gruppen, indicated with Roman numbers. Each Gruppe had three Staffeln, of 12 aircraft, labelled with arabic numbers; these were numbered continously -- 7. Staffel was part of III. Gruppe. The point has the meaning of 'th' in German, so '2.' means '2nd'. The Staff (Stab) of each Gruppe had also four aircraft, and so did the staff of the geschwader. Theoretical strength was thus about 124 aircraft. The aircraft of the officers had special markings, placed in front of the German cross:

The Staffel commander, known as 'Staffelkapitan' (but not necessarily having the rank of captain) was sometimes also identified by a small flag on the antenna mast.
The Gruppen were indicated by symbols placed after the cross:

IV. Gruppe · or +
While Staff- and Gruppe-markings were in black with white borders, a distinction between Staffeln was made by varying the colors of the symbols and numbers of aircraft:
So an aircraft with a Yellow 5 and a ~ painted on it belonged to the 9. Staffel, part of the III. Gruppe. There were, however, many exceptions on this system, which was complicated and only applied to jagdgeschwader.
